About Ma's Motorsports
Ma's Motorsports started as a fluke, family only and jokingly referred to as Ma's Motorsports or Hoopty Racing. Ma's Motorsports stuck. The founders are Stuart (Enduro driver) and Traci Stroud (Enduro Owner), Larry Cockrell (Technical advisor and fabricator), Helen "Ma" Chalender, Bill (Enduro driver) and Linda Cockrell (Enduro Owner) and James "Hoss" Meek (Dash Owner/Driver). James Meek joined us, as an Enduro driver, in our second season and has been a valuable asset ever since. Since James joined Ma's Motorsports, we have grown considerably, incorporating as many as 5 more cars for the 2005 racing season, all Enduros. During the 2005 racing season, four of our drivers took home trophies. One first place finish was a newcomer, with her joining Ma's Motorsports that night. The other trophies are Second and Third place finishes and one car more than once. Safety is a primary concern for Ma's Motorsports. We have incorporated safer roll cages into most of our cars to ensure minimal injury in case of accident. We are working toward having a full season with no accidents or injuries on or off the track. We have been successful so far in that we have had no injuries, but a few wrecked cars, with one being totaled at the end of the season. The 2006 racing season expanded with 4 more cars, 1 of which will be Dash Class and 1 Modified Class car (which may or may not be able to race at I-70, according to track rules). We have been approached recently by several individual race car owners/drivers asking to join our race team, some of which do not or will not race at I-70 Speedway, including some ARCA cars. During the 2007 racing season, Ma's began moving away from racing and more into Promotions and Marketing. We do approximately 4 shows a year, sometimes more, sometimes less. For smaller shows we usually have around 10 cars. For larger shows, turn-out sometimes reach as large as 100. What makes Ma's Motorsports successful? We are an organization (loosely) that believes in Racers helping racers to continue racing safely and to be more competitive. It is solely a barter/exchange situation, where no real money changes hands at any time, except to pay for expenses. We have a host of knowledgeable people (drivers and others) working with us, sharing their time, tools, knowledge and ability, also sharing their sponsors as their sponsors allow. With our sponsors help and support, our shows turn out to be some of the best in the area. Some sponsors choose to deal with our drivers on an individual basis and some deal with the whole group. We leave that decision up to the individual sponsor as they know what works best for their advertising dollars.
